The Pacific- how does it suit its genre?

The Pacific

Genre- War Drama

  • The text the titles are shown in is similar to that of an old-fashioned type writer. This is a convention of genre as it helps set a period mood, which is useful as this film was set during one of the world wars
  • Battle scenes are shown in both sketches and photos throughout the sequence. This is a convention of genre as it suggests death and violence, which are common themes featured in a war-time drama.
  • All the shots that are filmed are coloured using sepia. This is a convention of genre as people of the time would've only been able to access photos of that kind, making it more realistic and enjoyable for the audience.
  • However, I don't particularly like this title sequence as although it fits very well into it's genre, I think it could have done so in a more exciting and dynamic way. Especially since it is a wartime drama, it could have opened with some dramatic battle footage.
